FAQs

Cherokee Lodge is always willing to answer any questions you may have regarding social family nudism! Email us, or call us, with your questions.

Why do people choose nude recreation?
Nude recreation embraces the joy of living and experiencing nature in the most natural way possible. To relax and be nude is to let yourself be totally free. Although we enjoy clothing free activities in appropriate settings, we also choose to wear clothes when practical. Nudists respect each other's individuality. Our own self esteem is enhanced by our ability to accept ourselves as we really are. We find it easy to accept others regardless of physical size, shape, or body condition. Moreover, social class distinctions, often indicated by clothing, disappear.

Relaxation, stress relief, positive body image, and increasing self esteem are just a few of the reasons people choose the nudist lifestyle.

Is nude recreation becoming more accepted?
The answer to this question is a resounding YES! The Roper Organization reported that some 40 million Americans have skinny-dipped in mixed company. For people who want to recapture the freedom and innocence of that experience, AANR clubs offer relaxing, down to earth, casual environments. Members may also participate in AANR World Adventure nudist vacations and cruises.

What are the characteristics of an AANR club?
The atmosphere of an AANR club is wholesome and friendly. People who enjoy nude recreation distinguish between nudity and sex and keep the two in their proper perspective. Clubs are careful about who enters their facility and if anyone seems to be there for the wrong reason, they will be asked to leave. Cherokee Lodge and Resort has it own admission policies, activities, and amenities, we recommend contacting the club before your first visit.

Club activities often include sports and events much like any resort. You'll enjoy swimming, walking, tennis, hiking, volleyball, cycling, themed parties, special meal events, and the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people, diverse in age, profession, and culture.

Are children welcome at Cherokee Lodge and Resort?
Children are natural nudists and quickly take to it like ducks take to water. Cherokee Lodge and Resort welcomes children and encourage families to join the club, you'll find activities and facilities for your kids to enjoy - and they'll thank you for taking them along.

I'd love to try naturism but I'd have to lose 15 pounds first. Don't all naturists have perfect bodies?
Most of us are so accustomed to viewing idealized versions of the human body in movies, in magazines and on television that we've developed an unrealistic idea of what the "average" body is like. Consequently, as a first-time naturist you may fear that everyone else will have a thin, fit, perfectly-proportioned body, and that you will not.
This is not the case. At clothes-optional beaches and resorts you will be greeted by body types of all kinds: Young and old, tall and short, fat and thin, tanned and pale, and everything in between. Some people will have physical disabilities; others will carry scars from past injuries or surgeries. Few will conform to an artificial "Hollywood standard" of physical perfection-a standard that's all but impossible to achieve for most people. What's more, you will find that all types of bodies are quite accepted just as they are.

I'm single and I've heard that I won't be allowed at naturist club activities. Why not?
In the early days of American club nudism, rules of "propriety" demanded that all visitors be male-female couples. A lot has changed, and today single persons are welcomed much more widely than they once were at nudist clubs and resorts. However, vestiges of that old-fashioned policy linger, and many clubs do have some restrictions on the number of non-member single male visitors they will allow on a given day, ostensibly to provide gender balance and prevent women from feeling outnumbered and uncomfortable.
Cherokee Lodge and Resort believes that individuals should be granted or denied access to naturist venues based solely on their behavior, and has set up non-discriminatory admission policies. Cherokee Lodge and Resort welcome individuals and the many affiliated singles' group that exists to visit

I'm definitely ready to try nude recreation. But my (spouse/partner/friend) isn't. What do I do?
For many people the idea of baring it all in front of strangers is simply terrifying. Some harbor feelings of shame because they feel their bodies are somehow flawed. Others see nudity as immodest or sinful. These beliefs may be difficult to overcome. But most of the time it is just plain fear of the unknown that keeps people from trying nude recreation. One way to get ready to "go public" is to learn what to expect. Your visit to this Web site is a great first step-one which you might wish to share with your partner, friend or family member.
In addition to the information found at this web site the American Association of Nude Recreation and The Naturist society offer more information with magazines, and videotapes that provide an introduction to naturism.

Be understanding if your partner is nervous, and don't force the issue. Remember, everyone had a "first time" for skinny-dipping. Some of those men and women who were most reluctant at first are now among the most enthusiastic participants!
